Important Update for Private Landlords in England!

As part of the ongoing implementation of the Renters’ Rights Act, the government is rolling out the new ‘Register your rental property’ service starting this winter.  

If you are a landlord of an assured or regulated tenancy, you will soon need to register yourself and each of your rental properties.  

Here is what you need to know to get ready:

Regional Rollout: The service launches on 15 December 2026, beginning in the West Midlands, before rolling out regionally on a phased basis. Once your region goes live, you will have a 3-month window to complete your registration. Date for South West England: 15 August 2027

 Fees: There is an annual registration fee of £65 per property, which must be renewed each year.

What You'll Need: You'll need a GOV.UK One Login, property details (address, number of bedrooms/residents, rent amount), and safety documentation (such as gas, electric, and energy performance certificates).

Action Required: Currently, this applies to properties that are currently let or become let during the rollout. (Unoccupied properties don't need to be registered just yet).  

Make sure you stay ahead of the deadlines to avoid any penalties and to demonstrate compliance under the new rules.
